Bergen Kids — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 August 2026 Applies to: https://stagingbergenkids.newagesmb.com/ and the Bergen Kids apps
The short version
Accounts are for adults. Children cannot sign up.
We ask for your children's age groups, not their names, dates of birth, schools or photographs.
We use your town and age preferences to decide what to show you first. That is the whole reason we ask.
We do not sell your personal information.
Advertisers get counts, never lists. No advertiser learns who you are.
You can see, correct, export or delete your data by writing to us.

2. Children's information — read this one
Bergen Kids is a service for parents, not for children. It is not directed at children and children may not create accounts.
What we ask about children: an age group — Infant (0–2), Preschool (3–5), Early Elementary (6–9), Tween (10–13), Teen (14–18). That is all.
What we never ask for: a child's name, date of birth, photograph, school, address, or health information.
Because we collect only a broad age band, entered by an adult, and never a child's identity, we do not knowingly collect personal information from or about an identifiable child.
Do not enter your child's personal details into free-text fields, reviews or event submissions. If you do, we will remove it.
If you believe a child has created an account or that a child's personal information has reached us, write to privacy@bergenkids.com and we will delete it promptly.
3. How we use your information
To run your account and sign you in
To decide what to show you first — your town and age groups drive the ordering of listings and events
To send account messages: sign-in codes, confirmations, submission decisions
To send updates about local events, only if you ask for them, and you can stop at any time
To review submissions and prevent fraud, spam and abuse
To understand which parts of the directory are used, in aggregate, so we can improve it
To bill advertisers and provide their reporting
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not run behavioural advertising.
4. Advertising — what advertisers see and don't
Advertisers on Bergen Kids can choose where their advertisement appears: a category, a town, an age group.
They choose an audience. They never receive the audience.
An advertiser sees counts — how many times an advertisement was shown, how many people tapped it. They do not see who you are, your email, your children's ages, or any list of users. We do not give advertisers your contact details, and we do not let them message you through us.
5. Who we share with
We share personal information only with:

Why
Payment processor

Email address, phone number

Only what is legally required
When compelled by valid legal process
Each is bound to use it only for the service it provides to us.
If Bergen Kids is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner. We will tell you before that happens and you may delete your account first.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
6. Cookies and similar technology
We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and count usage. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels for behavioural advertising. You can clear cookies in your browser; signing in will be needed again.
7. How long we keep it
Account information: while your account is open
After you delete your account: recoverable for 30 days, then permanently removed within 90 days
Advertiser billing records: kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically seven years
Technical logs: a short rolling period, normally under 12 months
Published listings and events: may remain after your account closes, since they are part of the public directory — tell us if you want yours removed
8. Your rights
Whatever state you are in, you may:
See what we hold about you
Correct anything wrong
Export your data in a portable format
Delete your account and your personal information
Opt out of marketing email at any time
Object to a particular use, and we will explain or stop
Write to privacy@bergenkids.com. We respond within 30 days, and we will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.
New Jersey, California and several other states give residents specific statutory rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We apply the rights above to everyone, regardless of where you live.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit
Sign-in is by one-time code, so there is no password of yours for us to lose
Card numbers never touch our servers
Access to user data is limited to staff who need it, and administrator actions are logged
We use sub-administrator accounts with limited permissions rather than giving everyone full access
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
10. Where your data is held
Bergen Kids is operated in the United States and your information is stored there. If you use it from outside the US, you are sending your information to the US.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days beforehand, and the date at the top will change.
12. Contact
privacy@bergenkids.com — privacy questions, data requests, and anything about a child's information support@bergenkids.com — everything else
