1. What Bergen Kids is
Bergen Kids is a directory of local services, businesses, events and articles for families in Bergen County, New Jersey. We help you find pediatricians, tutors, camps, schools, classes and activities, and we let local businesses list themselves and advertise.
We are a directory, not a provider. We do not run the camps, teach the classes, or treat the patients. Every service listed here belongs to someone else.
2. Who may use it
You must be 18 or older to create an account.
Accounts are for parents, guardians and other adults. Children may not create accounts.
Business accounts must be created by someone authorised to act for that business.
One person, one account. Do not share your sign-in.
3. Your account
You sign in with a code sent to your email or phone. Keep that email and phone secure — anyone who can receive your code can reach your account.
Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for activity under it.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, misrepresents a business, or puts other users at risk.
4. What we do and do not check
This matters more here than in most products, so we will be plain about it.
We do check that a listed business exists, that its contact details work, and that its listing is not obviously false. We review advertisements before they run.
We do not check licences, certifications, insurance, staff background checks, safety records, inspection history, or the quality of anyone's work. A listing on Bergen Kids is not an endorsement, recommendation, certification or guarantee.
Before you leave a child with anyone you found here, verify their credentials yourself. Ask for licence numbers. Check them with the relevant New Jersey authority. Ask about background checks and insurance. We cannot do this for you, and we do not.
5. Content posted by others
Listings, event submissions, reviews and business descriptions are written by the businesses and people who submit them. We do not verify their accuracy. Prices, hours, ages served and availability change without anyone telling us.
If something on Bergen Kids is wrong, misleading or harmful, report it and we will look into it. We may remove any content at our discretion.
6. Submitting an event or a listing
When you submit an event or claim a business listing, you confirm that:
The information is accurate and you are entitled to submit it
You own the images you upload, or have permission to use them
The event or business is genuinely open to Bergen County families
You will tell us if it is cancelled or the details change
We review submissions before publishing and may edit, decline or remove them. Publication is at our discretion and we do not guarantee it or promise a timescale.
Do not submit anything unsafe or unlawful, anything that discriminates, anything that solicits children directly rather than their parents, or anything that misrepresents supervision, safety or qualifications.
7. Images of children
If you upload a photograph that shows a child:
You must have the right to share it, including the consent of that child's parent or guardian
Do not include a child's full name, school, home address, or anything else that would let a stranger identify or find them
We remove images that identify children unnecessarily, without waiting to be asked.
8. Advertising and paid placement
Businesses can pay for advertisements and for prominence in the directory.
Paid placement is always labelled. Sponsored listings, banners and promoted results are marked as advertising. We do not sell our editorial content or article coverage.
Paying does not buy a better review, a certification, or any implication that we vouch for the advertiser.
Advertisements are reviewed before they run. We may reject or remove any advertisement, including one already paid for, and will refund the unused portion.
Advertisers must not claim licences or credentials they do not hold, target children rather than parents, use false urgency, or make health claims they cannot support.
Advertiser billing
Prices, durations and placements are as shown when you buy.
Payment is by card through our payment processor. We do not store your card number.
Subscriptions renew for the stated term until cancelled. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
If we reject or remove an advertisement for breaching these terms, we refund the unused portion. If it is removed for a serious breach, we may decline a refund.
We do not guarantee any number of views, clicks, enquiries or customers.
9. What you may not do
Scrape, copy or republish the directory as a competing product
Submit false listings or reviews, or reviews of your own business
Impersonate another business or person
Collect other users' contact details for marketing
Attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service
Use Bergen Kids to contact children directly
10. Our content
The Bergen Kids name, design, articles and the directory as a compilation belong to us. You may link to us and share individual pages. You may not copy the directory, resell our content, or use our name or logo to suggest a partnership that does not exist.
Content you submit stays yours. By submitting it you give us permission to display, store and adapt it for the purpose of running and promoting Bergen Kids.
11. Availability
We aim to keep Bergen Kids running, but we do not guarantee it will always be available, complete, or free of errors. We may change or discontinue features.
12. Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows:
Bergen Kids is provided as is, without warranties
We are not responsible for the conduct, safety, competence or acts of any business, provider or event organiser listed here
We are not responsible for any agreement you enter into with them, or for anything that happens at their premises or in their care
We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, for most users, is nothing
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, where the law does not permit that limit.
13. Disputes with providers
If something goes wrong with a business you found here, that is between you and them. We are willing to pass on a complaint and will act on patterns of complaints, but we are not a party to your arrangement and cannot resolve it for you.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days beforehand. Continuing to use Bergen Kids after that means you accept the change.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, and the courts of New Jersey have jurisdiction.
